The Ukrainian defense firm Military Armored Company HUB is working on the concept of an uncrewed boat capable of destroying sea, ground, and air targets.
Information about the missions involving the said drone remains classified, but it has become a real game changer at sea, Ukrinform reports, referring to the Telegram channel of Deputy Prime Minister for Innovation, Development of Education, Science and Technology, Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov.
“Katran is a high-tech project by the Ukraine’s Military Armored Company HUB. The drone is fitted with torpedoes, a minigun, a machine gun, MANPADS, and other weapons. It easily covers distances of over 1,000 kilometers, performing attack and reconnaissance operations. The multifunctional drone effectively destroys sea, ground, and air targets,” Fedorov reported.
According to the official, the Katran requies no separate electronic warfare system to support it as it has a built-in system for automatically recognizing threats and shooting out heat traps.
“This is a super technology that sets a new standard for warfare,” the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
On the developer’s website, the KATRAN VENOM project is positioned as innovative autonomous platform for complex assault operations on water and in coastal areas. Thanks to advanced protection systems, artificial intelligence and sensors, this drone is a powerful tool for combat missions.
The drone will be able to reach a speed of 130 kmh, operating at range of up to 1,500 km.
It boasts a laser guidance system for automatic threat detection and protection against enemy guidance systems, suppression and interception of enemy signals using its own electronic warfare and electronic reconnaissance complex, as well as the use of smoke and heat traps to dodge incoming missiles and artillery rounds.
The drone will be armed with torpedoes to destroy sea targets, a minigun to destroy front targets, and a Browning machine gun with a 180-degree firing angle designed to hit air targets. In addition, two Piorun MANPADS could be installed for air defense.
