Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that it is important for Ukraine to be in a strong position during peace negotiations. He also stressed the need for guarantees from the United States to ensure that Russia does not return with another war.
The head of state said this during a press conference following a meeting of European leaders on support for Ukraine and security in Europe, held in Paris on Thursday, Ukrinform reports.
“For me, it is important that Ukraine holds a strong position in negotiations. That we have a real chance to end the war through talks — not just to end it, but to secure a just and lasting peace so that war does not return tomorrow. I want guarantees from the United States,” Zelensky said.
He said that these guarantees should not depend on who currently occupies the White House.
On March 21, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed confidence that negotiations with both the Ukrainian and Russian sides had already led to the establishment of the “confines of a deal” for a peaceful resolution.
