In case of violation of the Black Sea ceasefire by Russia, the response from the Ukrainian Naval Forces will be adequate.
This was stated on national television by the spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk, Ukrinform reports.
“This has also been repeatedly discussed by the country’s top leadership, that, of course, the reaction will be adequate. And the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, also voiced the demand that the Russians must not leave the eastern part of the Black Sea, where they have a formal legal right to stay, this is the Russian coast, and where they have actually been for a long time,” Pletenchuk noted.
He recalled that, as per vision of Ukraine’s top leadership, a ceasefire on the Black Sea primarily involves stopping attacks on port infrastructure
“And yes, it’s about security. It’s about what facilities cannot be hit during a ceasefire. This, of course, concerns the stable operation of our grain corridor and the ability to acquire export capabilities. As for military targets, as you know, from what was announced by Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry officials, this does not apply to military targets such as warships, for example,” the spokesman emphasized.
He noted that the Ukrainian Navy, as well as Ukraine’s partners sharing the Black Sea coast, are forced to track and monitor the situation on the Black Sea.
“But monitoring the surface situation, the aerial situation is our daily work, which we do together with partners, including purely technically. It is actually not that difficult, the main thing here, of course, is to have a political decision. In any case, until we see the final version of the document, where all the conditions will be laid down, where they will be formalized as well as means of control, it is quite difficult to analyze,” Pletenchuk concluded.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, following the negotiations between the American and Ukrainian delegations in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) on March 25, the United States and Ukraine agreed on safe navigation, preventing the use of force, and preventing the use of commercial vessels for military purposes in the Black Sea.
