During his Sunday Angelus prayer reflection, Pope Francis renewed his call for prayers for peace in Ukraine and other conflict-ridden parts of the world.

That’s according to Vatican News, citing the Holy See’s press office, Ukrinform reports.

“Trusting in the mercy of God the Father, we continue to pray for peace: in martyred Ukraine, in Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Myanmar, which is also suffering so much because of the earthquake,” the Pontiff stated in his Sunday address.

Pope Francis also expressed deep concern over the situation in South Sudan, urging leaders to do everything possible to ease tensions in the country.

“We must put aside our differences and, with courage and responsibility, sit around a table and engage in constructive dialogue. Only in this way will it be possible to alleviate the suffering of the beloved South Sudanese people and to build a future of peace and stability,” he said.

After his recent hospitalization for severe pneumonia, Pope Francis is recovering at his Vatican residence. The Holy Father still has difficulty speaking, so his reflections were distributed through the Holy See’s press office.

Pope Francis was so gravely ill during his 38-day hospitalization for pneumonia that doctors considered discontinuing treatment to allow him to pass away peacefully.

On Sunday, March 23, Pope Francis was discharged from the Gemelli hospital after five weeks of treatment. Before leaving, he made his first public appearance since his hospitalization.
