SBU detains two Russian agents planning terror attack in Lviv

Ukraine’s SBU State Security Service, in cooperation with the National Police, has detained two Russian agents who were plotting to bomb an administrative building of a district police department in Lviv.

The investigation revealed that the suspects planned to smuggle an improvised explosive device hidden in a bag into the building, Ukrinform reports, citing SBU.

At that moment, Russian intelligence operatives intended to remotely detonate the bomb — killing both the agents and anyone nearby.

One of the perpetrators is a 22-year-old Kyiv resident who was looking for easy money through Telegram channels.

According to operational data, the woman was recruited by a Russian GRU officer, who first assigned her to distribute propaganda leaflets in Kyiv as a test mission.

Later, she was sent to Lviv to prepare the terrorist attack and enlisted a male acquaintance from Kyiv to assist her.

Upon arrival, they received coordinates from their handler to retrieve an explosive device disguised as a fire extinguisher.

Additionally, they planned to install a hidden video camera near the target site, providing Russian handlers with a live feed of agent movements and the aftermath of the attack.

However, SBU counterintelligence uncovered the plot in advance, documented the suspects’ activities, and arrested them as they approached the police building with the explosives.

SBU investigators have formally charged them under Article 111, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).

The suspects are currently in custody and face life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
