Russian propaganda is intensifying its disinformation campaign and increasing the number of fakes about “atrocities of the Armed Forces in the Kursk region”.
According to Ukrinform, the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine reported this in Telegram.
“Ru-propaganda continues to develop a disinformation campaign to discredit the Ukrainian Defense Forces, spreading fakes about the alleged “atrocities of the Armed Forces in Kursk region”. The propagandists have launched a stream of materials accusing the Ukrainian military of murder and cruelty to civilians without any evidence,” the statement said.
As noted, videos with “testimonies” from residents of Kursk region remain the largest group of fakes. They often do not restrain their imagination and reach the point of absurdity. For example, a video is circulating with a local priest who says that the Ukrainian military allegedly organized “looting tours” to the Kursk region for residents of Sumy region in exchange for money. In another case, they talk about men who were burying the bodies of “civilians killed by the Ukrainian army.” But in the video, the men say that in most cases these were elderly people who died of natural causes.
The Center emphasized that in this way the enemy is trying to discredit the Ukrainian military and Ukraine as a state in the eyes of the international community. This propaganda is also aimed at the domestic audience. The goal is to cultivate hatred for Ukrainians and to consolidate the image of Ukraine as an enemy in the minds of Russians.
As Ukrinform reported, earlier Russian propaganda spread fakes about Ukraine’s alleged preparation of a “provocation at the Kursk nuclear power plant.”
