Deputy defense ministers, Rheinmetall delegation discuss development of joint projects

Ukrainian Deputy Defense Ministers Valerii Churkin and Serhii Boyev held discussions with a delegation from the German company Rheinmetall Landsystem GmbH, led by its CEO, Dr. Björn Bernhard.

That’s according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, Ukrinform reports.

Rheinmetall Landsystem GmbH has been among the first to localize production in Ukraine, according to the report.

Key topics of the meeting included the development of joint projects aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the Ukrainian army.

Discussions focused on the activities of joint Ukrainian-German enterprises involved in repairing and maintaining foreign military equipment, as well as the possibility of training Ukrainian specialists in weapons and military equipment maintenance with the help of partners.

“Ukraine is interested in expanding its cooperation with allies in the defense industry. New technologies and production capabilities are of paramount importance to Ukraine, given the current threats. We are grateful to our German partners for their support in bolstering the technical capabilities of Ukraine’s military and advancing our defense industry. The localization of defense enterprises in Ukraine and the production of modern weaponry to high technological standards remain a critical priority for strengthening our nation’s defense,” stated Churkin.

The parties also exchanged views on further expanding their defense cooperation.

As reported, Rheinmetall is prepared to offer its products for a potential peacekeeping mission in Ukraine.
