U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone call with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, during which they discussed the situation surrounding Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The U.S. Department of State said this in a statement seen by Ukrinform.
Both sides discussed ongoing efforts to secure and support a lasting end to the Russia-Ukraine war, including U.S. President Donald Trump’s productive meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on April 26 and the April 22 discussions among the United States, France, Germany, and Ukraine hosted by the United Kingdom in London.
“The Secretary thanked Foreign Secretary Lammy for the United Kingdom’s work towards a durable peace in Ukraine,” the statement said.
Trump recently stated that Russia and Ukraine were very close to signing a peace agreement and should meet at “very high levels” to finalize the process.
Rubio earlier said that the United States seeks to resolve the Russia-Ukraine war through diplomatic means before introducing further sanctions. In his opinion, sanctions on Russia would only prolong the war by another two years.
