Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 200 Ukrainian artists and 103 media workers have been killed.
This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, according to Ukrinform.
“These figures not only reflect the scale of the losses but also serve as a reminder of the tragic chapters in our history. Much like Stalin’s regime in the 1920s and 1930s, which decimated generations of Ukrainian artists, Russia is now deliberately targeting Ukraine’s cultural elite,” the ministry stated,” the statement reads.
The ministry drew parallels to the “Executed Renaissance,” a literary and artistic generation that gifted the world masterpieces in literature, painting, music, and theater. “These artists were the pride of our nation. Today, we are losing not only talented Ukrainians but a part of our soul, as each artist is a unique individual who enriched Ukrainian culture,” the ministry said.

The ministry also underscored that Russia’s systematic crimes against journalists and media workers pose a significant threat to freedom of speech and information security, eroding democratic values and human rights. It also called for the memory of the victims to be preserved.
The ministry’s website has published lists of artists, cultural workers, and media professionals who have lost their lives during the war.
