The shelf life of high-quality gasoline containing bioethanol does not exceed six months. It is not recommended to store such gasoline for a long time.
The relevant statement was made by A95 Consulting Group Director Serhii Kuiun in a commentary for Ukrinform’s publication.
“If you buy high-quality E5 gasoline [with a 5% bioethanol content – Ed.], its shelf life is no longer than six months. Since it is problematic to ensure proper storage conditions, especially in winter, such fuel should not be stored for a long time,” Kuiun told.
In his words, biofuel is suitable for all injection engines. The expert advises against buying cheap fuel, at least in the first months as the requirements for the use of biocomponents in gasoline came into effect, as its quality may be questionable.
Separately, Kuiun emphasized that there were no innovations with regard to blending diesel fuel with biocomponents, and no such changes had been planned yet.
According to the expert, the new gasoline requirements will not affect prices at filling stations.
“With a decline in oil prices, we expect filling stations to lower prices as soon as this May – about UAH 1 for gasoline and UAH 2 for diesel fuel,” Kuiun added.
A reminder that, from May 1, 2025, gasoline must contain at least 5% of liquid biocomponents in Ukraine. The exceptions are gasoline with an octane rating of 98 and higher, fuel for the needs of the Defense Ministry, and for creating the minimum reserves of oil and petroleum products.
