Technical-level negotiations on a potential ceasefire in Ukraine could be held at the Vatican next week, according to Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
He made this statement while answering questions from journalists in Helsinki, Ukrinform reports, citing Yle.
“There are now more mediators involved: previously, only the United States played this role, but now Europe is participating as well,” Stubb said.
He added that technical-level talks are likely to continue at the Vatican next week.
The Finnish leader expressed optimism about the situation, saying Europe hopes to take part in discussions aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Ukraine and potentially laying the groundwork for peace.
On May 19, the leaders of Germany, Finland, France, Italy, and Ukraine, along with the president of the European Commission, held a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss his recent talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
