Ukraine welcomes EU decision to lift economic sanctions on Syria

Ukraine has welcomed the European Union’s decision to lift economic sanctions on Syria, originally imposed 14 years ago, and reaffirmed its commitment to fostering bilateral cooperation.

This was stated in an official commentary from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as reported by Ukrinform.

“This timely move will open additional new opportunities for the Syrian people in the process of building a new, peaceful and prosperous Syria, where human rights, decent living conditions and fundamental freedoms are ensured for all,” the MFA said.

The ministry added that Ukraine confirms its commitment to develop bilateral cooperation with Syria in key areas of interaction.

“We are ready to continue supporting the Syrian people on the path to restoring normal life in the country, particularly, strengthening the country’s food security through the humanitarian initiative of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy ‘Grain from Ukraine’ and the special program ‘Food from Ukraine,” the MFA said.

As Ukrinform reported, the European Union decided to lift economic sanctions on Syria.
