Ukraine admits that the upcoming meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin may be in an expanded format, and would very much like US President Donald Trump to join it.

This was stated by Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha during a conversation with journalists on Friday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The head of Ukrainian diplomacy emphasized that there can be no conditions for the continuation of the meeting held in Istanbul, because if we remove “all these pseudo-historical lectures by the Russian delegation,” a clear agreement was reached there.

“The first is the exchange of prisoners of war, and today the implementation of this item, as the President of Ukraine said, has begun. The second point is that we are waiting for the Russian side to present their vision, their concept, their proposals on the parameters of a future unconditional ceasefire,” Sybiha said.

He added that Ukraine, for its part, is also preparing our vision, which will be handed over to the Russian side.

“The third position we are also working on is a meeting between President Zelensky and Putin. We admit that this meeting may be in an expanded format. We would very much like President Trump to join it. And we have always consistently insisted that Europe must be at the table of possible future negotiations,” the Foreign Minister said.

He answered in the affirmative when asked if the Vatican was still being considered as a potential meeting place.

“We are. We are interested, and we are grateful to Pope Leo XIV personally for this proposal. We would welcome such a meeting in the Vatican,” the minister said.

As reported by Ukrinform, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow opposes the organization of Russian-Ukrainian peace talks in the Vatican because it is “not elegant.”
