The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has confirmed a strike on PJSC Energia in the town of Yelets, Lipetsk region of the Russian Federation.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported on Facebook by the General Staff.

Overnight, on May 23, units of Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces, in coordination with other elements of the Defense Forces, struck PJSC Energia.

A hit on the target area was confirmed, with a series of explosions recorded. A fire broke out on the premises. Detailed information about the aftermath is being clarified.

PJSC Energia is one of Russia’s largest manufacturers of chemical power sources. The company is the only producer of batteries for guidance and correction modules used in aerial bombs.

The plant also manufactures batteries for the Iskander-M tactical missile system, sea-launched cruise missiles, and a range of universal power units used in power systems for specialized military equipment.

The shutdown of PJSC Energia could leave portions of Russian military equipment and weapons without critically important power supply components, the General Staff emphasized. They added that Ukraine’s Defense Forces continue focused strikes on key Russian military targets in an effort to force Russia to end its armed aggression against Ukraine.
