Russia reports drone attacks on Severny air base

On the night of May 23, Russia reported drone strikes across multiple regions, targeting a battery plant in Yelets and Ivanovo Severny air base.

That’s according to BBC Russian Service, as reported by Ukrinform.

Lipetsk Governor Igor Artamonov stated that a drone crash triggered a fire in an industrial area in Yelets, with reports of possible casualties. He added that electronic warfare and air defense systems “continue to operate in Yelets.”

Local residents have reported several drones strikes on the Energia plant, a manufacturer of batteries and accumulators that supplies the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Social media sources also cited a drone attack on the Severny air base in Ivanovo. The Regional Operational Headquarters confirmed that debris fell on the outskirts of the city but did not specify the exact location.

Meanwhile, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported other drones, claiming they were shot down while flying toward the capital

Since Thursday evening, the Russian Ministry of Defense reports that a total of 112 drones have been shot down across various regions of Russia and the temporarily occupied Crimea.

Rosaviatsia reopened Moscow’s Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports at 4 a.m., followed by the reopening of airports in Ivanovo, Kaluga, Kostroma, Tambov, and Yaroslavl at 6 a.m.

As earlier reported by Ukrinform, Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, stated that the Energia plant in Yelets, Lipetsk region, was attacked. The facility, which produces components for UAVs, Iskander and Kinzhal missiles, and electronic warfare systems, suspended operations following the strike.
