The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has unveiled exclusive footage documenting the release of 390 Ukrainians from Russian captivity. The exchange took place on Friday, May 23, as part of the first phase of the “1,000-for-1,000” prisoner swap.
According to Ukrinform, the video was posted on the SBU’s official Facebook page.
This operation was made possible through the efforts of the Joint Center for the Coordination of the Search and Release of Prisoners of War, the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, and other authorized institutions—working in line with the directive issued by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
As Ukrinform previously reported, 390 prisoners were returned to Ukraine as part of the “1,000-for-1,000” exchange.
On May 22, President Zelensky held a meeting to finalize preparations for the exchange, following which he stated that details were being clarified for each individual included in the lists submitted by the Russian side.
Earlier, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, commenting on the outcome of negotiations with a Russian delegation in Istanbul on May 16, noted that a “1,000 for 1,000” prisoner exchange could take place in the near future.
