The Children Rights Protection Center, one of the largest in Ukraine and the first of its kind in the country’s east, has officially opened in Dnipro.
This was announced by Mykola Lukashuk, chairman of the Dnipro Regional Council, via Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
“The first in the east of the country. This center was established on the initiative of Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets. The regional council provided the most essential support: handing over a modern building, re-equipping it, installing communications, and ensuring access to the shelter. With the help of international partners, the Center is now outfitted to the highest standards,” Lukashuk stated.
This center is a safe space where children in need can receive assistance and protection, he added.
More than 455,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) are officially registered in the Dnipropetrovsk region, including nearly 100,000 children.
The center provides vital support for children who have been deported, lost their parents, or are without care. It assists those who have survived hostilities, experienced or witnessed violence, lost their homes, or suffer from deep emotional trauma due to the war.
One of its primary missions is to safeguard the rights of deported children and facilitate their return home. So far, 1,324 children have been successfully reunited with their families.
The facility includes a dedicated children’s space, rooms for psychological support, a public hub, and offices for assisting citizens and partners. Additionally, the center extends its services to families of soldiers, missing persons, and veterans. In 2024 alone, it received 1,677 appeals from relatives of prisoners. In the first half of 2025, that number has already reached 1,001.
The project has gained international support, with contributions from the Government of the Republic of Korea through KOICA and UNICEF.
As Ukrinform previously reported, Thordis Kolbrun Reykfjord Gylfadottir, Special Envoy of the Council of Europe Secretary General for Children’s Issues, visited the Children Rights Protection Center in Kyiv.
