The number of people injured as a result of a Russian airstrike on downtown Kharkiv has risen to 16, with one person confirmed dead.

This was reported to journalists by Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.

“Currently, we have 10 injured individuals receiving medical attention. Unfortunately, one person has died. The strike hit the Children’s Railway area — a civilian site that is usually crowded with people and children. A cynical attack — this is real terrorism by inhumane forces,” the Mayor said.

He added that rescue workers and utility services are still addressing the aftermath of the massive overnight assault.

“The destruction this morning is overwhelming. We haven’t even had time to extinguish the fires — a civilian facility, a light industry enterprise, is still burning. There are people missing — workers from the enterprise. Now there has been another strike with guided aerial bombs. Private houses and apartment buildings have been damaged,” Terekhov said.

Later, the Mayor announced on Telegram that the number of injured had risen to 16.

According to Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleh Syniehubov, the airstrike killed a woman and left three people in critical condition.

He also reported that 200 State Emergency Service personnel were deployed to deal with the aftermath of the mass attack.

“The terrorist state continues to strike civilian infrastructure,” Syniehubov stressed.

He further clarified that eight people had been hospitalized:

“At present, eight people have been taken to hospitals in Kharkiv, including a 14-year-old boy. Among the injured, three are in serious condition,” he noted.

According to his information, the deceased woman was 30 years old.
