Ukraine has submitted a request for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council in response to the latest Russian missile strikes on the country.
Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Andrii Melnyk, said this in a comment to Ukrinform.
“I have just signed a letter to the President of the UN Security Council requesting the earliest possible convening of a Security Council meeting in connection with the escalation of Russia’s missile terror against Ukraine’s civilian population,” the envoy said.
He noted that last night alone, a massive Russian attack claimed the lives of many Kyiv residents, injured more than a hundred people, and once again destroyed residential buildings.
“We are dealing not just with war crimes against the civilian population, committed nightly and daily by the Moscow regime. These are crimes against humanity that require not only condemnation but also a decisive response and practical measures from the international community, above all from the UN Security Council,” Melnyk said.
The diplomat added that on Tuesday, he would meet with the President of the Security Council, Guyana’s UN Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, to discuss further steps in line with the UN Charter.
“I hope the members of the Security Council will deliver a firm response to Russia’s criminal actions. The time has come to end the Kremlin’s impunity,” he added.
