The UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Ukraine, Matthias Schmale, strongly condemned the Russian armed forces’ strikes on Kyiv, Odesa, and other Ukrainian cities and urged to stop attacking the civilians.
This was stated in an official statement by the humanitarian coordinator, as reported by Ukrinform.
” Ukrainians have endured another night of violence. The residents of Kyiv have experienced terrifying drone and missile strikes by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The attacks reportedly caused more than a dozen civilian deaths and injured over 50 people. Residential buildings and civilian infrastructure are damaged or destroyed throughout the city,” Schmale said.
He added that in Odesa, Russian strikes reportedly caused multiple civilian injuries and damaged a kindergarten and a center for children with special needs — places where children should feel safe.
In Zaporizhzhia, Russian shelling also damaged residential buildings, terrorizing families in their own homes, Schmale noted.
He emphasized that local emergency services, authorities, and humanitarian workers are already on the ground supporting affected families — providing emergency medical care, delivering essential supplies, and assessing further needs.
” The people of Ukraine should not have to cover in shelters night after night. Each day, the war takes a devastating toll on civilians. Attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are prohibited under international humanitarian law. Civilians, including children, must never be a target. We must not normalize the war,” Schmale stressed.
As Ukrinform previously reported, during the night of June 17, Russia launched more than 440 drones and 32 missiles at Ukraine. In Kyiv, 27 locations were hit in a combined attack. Preliminary data indicate that 14 people were killed.
