Search and rescue operations have concluded in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district, where a residential building was struck and partially destroyed. The operation lasted over 39 hours, and rescuers recovered the bodies of 23 people from under the rubble of the collapsed section.
As reported by Ukrinform, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko announced the completion of the operation via Telegram.
“At 19:20 today, rescuers completed the search efforts. Dismantling of structural debris continues. Tragically, at this location alone, the bodies of 23 victims were recovered. In total, 28 people died in the capital due to the Russian missile strike on June 17, and over 140 were injured. My heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased. This is not just one family’s tragedy — it is the sorrow of the entire country,” Klymenko stated.
According to Klymenko, the rescue operation began immediately after emergency services arrived at the scene. More than 400 State Emergency Service (SES) personnel and over 200 units of equipment were deployed. Specialized rescue and engineering vehicles, drones, and search dogs were used.
“SES teams rescued two people from under the rubble and evacuated about 50 others from apartments and stairwells. Psychological support teams provided urgent assistance to more than 220 individuals. We used every available resource to save lives,” he emphasized.
Additionally, over 300 law enforcement officers were deployed around the clock to maintain order at the site and will continue to do so as long as needed. Authorities are also accepting damage reports from affected residents — nearly 500 reports of property damage have already been submitted and are being carefully documented.
“Thanks to everyone who worked and continues to work at the site of this tragedy — for your resilience, courage, for the lives you saved, and for supporting those who survived this attack — both physically and psychologically. Homes have been destroyed, lives shattered, peace disturbed. But our faith in our strength remains unbroken. Attacking cities and residential buildings where civilians are sleeping is pure terrorism. And the synonym of terrorism is Russia,” Klymenko stressed.
As Ukrinform previously reported, Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko confirmed that 28 people were killed in the massive Russian missile and drone strike on June 17.
