Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace, known for producing NASAMS air defense systems, has opened an office in Ukraine.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov announced this on his Facebook page, as reported by Ukrinform.
“This is a leading Norwegian manufacturer of weapons, in particular NASAMS systems. In cooperation with Kongsberg, we focus on developing joint projects in the field of air defense. We are preparing new solutions based on NASAMS to strengthen the protection of the population and critical infrastructure,” Umerov noted.
He emphasized that air defense remains one of Ukraine’s top strategic priorities. “This month alone, the enemy launched more than 3,500 missiles and UAVs. We are working to scale up production and speed up deliveries,” he added.
The opening of the Kongsberg office is seen as a key milestone in strengthening the defense partnership between Ukraine, Norway, and the company itself.
“Together, we will implement projects in the fields of interceptor production, air defense, and maritime defense—areas where Kongsberg is a global leader,” said Umerov.
He noted that the partnership opens new opportunities for collaboration between Ukrainian and Norwegian engineers to enhance the effectiveness of existing weapons systems and drive innovation.
Umerov expressed gratitude to the Norwegian government for its financial support and to the Kongsberg team for their trust and commitment to long-term cooperation. He voiced optimism about achieving tangible results in the near future.
As reported by Ukrinform, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces General Oleksandr Syrskyi, and Chief of the General Staff Major General Andrii Hnatov held high-level talks with Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Onshuus Sandvik to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation.
