The European Union and Canada will continue to impose sanctions on Russia until it ends its war against Ukraine.

That is according to a joint statement by Canada and the EU, a Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“We will increase pressure on Russia, including through further sanctions and taking measures to prevent their circumvention, and by ensuring that Russian sovereign assets remain immobilized until Russia ceases its war of aggression against Ukraine and compensates it for the damage caused by this war,” the statement reads.

Canada and the EU also pledged to ensure “full accountability for war crimes and other serious crimes committed in connection with Russia’s war of aggression.”

“We also remain committed to supporting Ukraine’s repair, recovery and reconstruction,” the statement emphasized.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, Canada last week announced a significant expansion of its sanctions against Russia and unveiled a new $1.5 billion U.S. military aid package for Ukraine.
