Russia’s rhetoric about protecting Muslims aimed at their destruction – Chubarov

Russia, in global politics, tries to present itself as a defender of Muslims, but in reality, its rhetoric and actions are aimed at their destruction. A clear example of this is the crimes and persecution of Crimean Tatars in occupied Crimea.

This was stated by Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Refat Chubarov in a comment to Ukrinform on the sidelines of the session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul.

“Russia in global politics may seem like a supporter of Muslims. But everything related to Russia’s rhetoric about the protection of Muslims is, in fact, aimed at their destruction. And we demonstrate this using the example of the Crimean Tatars in occupied Crimea,” Chubarov noted.

He emphasized that the majority of political prisoners in Crimea are Crimean Tatars.

“Here, on the sidelines of the session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Istanbul, we see among the delegations of some countries those who still remain sympathetic to the Russian Federation, but no one should be misled by Russia’s rhetoric about allegedly defending Muslims everywhere,” Chubarov said.

He also underscored that the Ukrainian delegation distributed among the participants of the OIC summit in Istanbul an appeal from the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, which details the violations and crimes committed by the Russian occupation authorities in Crimea, the persecution and oppression of Crimean Tatars, the manipulation of Islamic rhetoric, and a call to OIC member states to be proactive, to make efforts to stop the aggressor — Russia — and to support the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
