As part of the final stage of a joint operation of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukrainians evacuated from Iran arrived in Kyiv by bus.
That’s according to Suspilne, Ukrinform reports.
The GUR reported that 31 people had been evacuated from Iran during the final stage of the operation. Among them are 12 women, five men and 14 children.
GUR representative Olha Mosiondz reported that the total number of Ukrainians evacuated from Iran and Israel is 164.
“This is a rather complicated evacuation. It was carried out in two stages. The first stage was the evacuation from Israel, then a total of 176 citizens were evacuated, 133 of them Ukrainians. Also, 31 people were evacuated from Iran, they are also all Ukrainians,” said Mosiondz.
The GUR representative noted that the evacuation from Iran was complicated due the complete lack of Internet and communication with citizens due to ongoing strikes. According to her, “it was very stressful” for people evacuating the country.
As Mosiondz added, the operation to rescue Ukrainian citizens from high-risk areas was carried out on the instructions of President Volodymyr Zelensky, on the eve of possible U.S. action against the Iranian nuclear program. The evacuation was run with the support of the governments of Azerbaijan, Israel, Egypt, and also in coordination with Moldova.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, the Ukrainian defense intelligence agency, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, conducted an operation to evacuate 176 people from Israel on June 22, including 133 citizens of Ukraine.
