Ukrainian military serving on the northern border and maintaining control over the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone are preparing for any possible scenarios of a repeated attack from Belarus.
This was stated by the National Guard unit commander, Colonel Yevhen Zhar, who spoke with Ukrinform’s “Victory Commanders”.
“Our unit is facing one challenge – a very short distance to the border with the Belarusians. And we are preparing for the fact that they can attack, as in 2022, or again let the enemy through their territory,” Zhar noted.
According to him, regardless of what actions are currently taking place on the territory of Belarus, Ukrainian defenders are preparing for any developments.
As reported, the Russo-Belarusian exercises “West-2025” will be held in mid-September. More than 13,000 servicemen will take part in the maneuvers.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said that on the eve of the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia had deployed its troops in Belarus, so the Russo-Belarusian exercises “West-2025” scheduled for this fall may serve as a cover for creating a new strike grouping of troops.
The spokesman for the State Border Guard Service, Andriy Demchenko, reported that the military exercises planned for September in Belarus may increase the risk of demonstrative efforts by Russia near the Ukrainian border.
Earlier, Ukrinform launched a series of video interviews, “Victory Commanders”, inviting commanders from various units to tell their stories. These are officers who have gained combat experience in complex operations.
