PM Shmyhal reports number of mines cleared in deoccupied Kherson region

Currently, 68% of the deoccupied territories of Kherson region have already been demined. Previously, this was expected to take up to 15 years.

This was announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

“Demining [of Kherson region]. Work is being carried out systematically. 68% of the deoccupied territories have already been demined,” he said.

The head of government stressed that, according to preliminary estimates, demining the relevant territories was expected to take up to 15 years.

“We will continue to strengthen the capabilities and funding in this area,” Shmyhal emphasized.

As reported by Ukrinform, the area of potentially mined land in Ukraine has decreased by more than 20% compared to the end of 2022 and currently amounts to about 137 thousand square kilometers.
