The development of defense co-production, Ukraine’s priorities during the upcoming Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and continued support for the Ukrainian Army were the key topics at a meeting between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen.
The relevant statement was made by the Head of State on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“I had a good meeting with Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen. We held a substantive discussion on the development of joint weapons production, Denmark’s EU Council Presidency, and continued support for our warriors. We have important decisions – Denmark will become the first country with which we will launch a joint defense production. Every country that genuinely supports Ukraine now can count on a mutually beneficial partnership with us. Together, we are strengthening Europe,” Zelensky wrote.
The President of Ukraine expressed gratitude to Denmark for its significant defense and political support.
“Thank you, Mette, for the fact that we can always count on you and the friendly people of Denmark,” Zelensky added.

The President’s Office also mentioned the development of the Danish model, which had proven effective. In 2025, Denmark will allocate EUR 1.26 billion to support Ukraine’s production of long-range drones.
Among other things, Zelensky and Frederiksen discussed the current needs of Ukrainian forces and the potential for increasing support in this area.
The parties also exchanged views on Denmark’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU, starting in just a week, on July 1, 2025. The key focus is on accelerating progress along Ukraine’s EU integration path and opening all negotiating clusters. As emphasized by the Head of State, Ukraine is ready and counts on Denmark’s leadership, support, and strong results.
“Thank you for your defense and political support, and for providing shelter to our people. We are counting heavily on your EU Presidency,” Zelensky concluded.
Meanwhile, Frederiksen reaffirmed Denmark’s continued support for Ukraine and stressed the importance of coordinating joint efforts to achieve the best possible outcomes during Denmark’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
A reminder that, on June 24, 2025, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen signed a Letter of Intent as part of the Build with Ukraine initiative, providing for the export of Ukrainian military technologies and establishment of production facilities abroad.
As noted by Umerov, Denmark had already allocated DKK 500 million to launch Ukraine’s defense production on its territory. All facilities established under this project will serve to strengthen Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
