Ukraine is defending the most essential constitutional right of every nation—the inalienable right to life and independence.

This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky during celebrations in Kyiv on the occasion of the Constitution Day, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“We thank all the peoples of the civilized world for their unity with Ukraine—with Europe, with America, with all those who understand what it means to fight for the highest constitutional right of any nation: the inalienable right to life, to independence, to live in peace and tranquility, and to flourish in a free Ukraine. This is all Ukraine seeks—and no one can say it wants too much. This means that Ukraine will certainly achieve this. All of us will achieve it. All those for whom Ukraine really comes first,” Zelensky said.

The president emphasized the importance of knowing that the Ukrainian people are not alone in their struggle—true friends, partners, allied states, and entire nations stand with them. He noted that the Alley of Courage on Constitution Square is dedicated to this solidarity and unwavering support.

“The Alley of Courage is where the names of those who stood with Ukraine from the very beginning—and still stand with us today—are engraved. Among them is Andrzej Duda, the President of Poland, who was one of the first to be honored on the Alley of Courage. And he remains with us, because today he is here,” Zelensky said.

As part of the Constitution Day celebrations, a formal ceremony was also held to present state awards of Ukraine.

As reported by Ukrinform, Polish President Andrzej Duda, whose term ends on August 5, arrived in Kyiv on Saturday, June 28, for an official visit. President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded him the Ukrainian Order of Liberty.

Ukraine marks Constitution Day on June 28, commemorating the adoption of its Basic Law in 1996. The document was passed by the Verkhovna Rada at 09:18, following nearly 24 hours of non-stop parliamentary debate.

Backed by 315 MPs, it enshrined core democratic principles: establishing a strong presidential system, securing private property rights, affirming Ukrainian as the sole state language, introducing new national symbols, and officially recognizing Crimea as an autonomous republic within Ukraine.
