Ukrainian and German Foreign Ministers Andrii Sybiha and Johann Wadephul visited Odesa to witness the aftermath of Russian attacks and discuss ways to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.
Sybiha shared the news on X, as reported by Ukrinform.
“Visited Odesa together with my German colleague Johann Wadephul. We paid tribute to the fallen Ukrainian defenders and went to the sea port, where we saw the damage caused by Russian strikes and received a security briefing,” Sybiha wrote.

He emphasized that the destruction in Odesa highlights the urgent need to reinforce Ukraine’s air shield to protect people, the economy, and global food security. Sybiha thanked Germany for its significant contribution to Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.
The ministers discussed various ways to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses, including supplying new air defense systems and interceptors, investing in joint air defense production, enhancing Ukraine’s interceptor drone capabilities, and developing long-range strike capabilities.

They also talked about expanding international support for Odesa region and its residents, who are enduring continuous Russian attacks.
“Russian strikes show that Putin rejects peace efforts and must face increased transatlantic pressure. We discussed how to ramp it up as soon as possible. Thank you, Johann, for your brave visit, and thank you to everyone in the great city of Odesa for your bravery and resilience, which inspires the entire world,” Sybiha added.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, newly appointed German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul is on an official visit to Ukraine.
At a joint press conference with Sybiha, Wadephul stated that military cooperation between Germany and Ukraine is a strategic advantage for both nations.
