President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Denmark on assuming the Presidency of the EU Council, expressing hope that the coming six months will be a time of important decisions.
The President shared his message on social platform X, as reported by Ukrinform.
“I congratulate Denmark on assuming its Presidency of the EU Council and look forward to the next six months as a period of important decisions. Ukraine is implementing everything necessary in the negotiation process for our country’s accession to the European Union. This year — and it will be during Denmark’s Presidency — we will be ready to open all clusters,” Zelensky wrote.
He also expressed deep appreciation for Denmark’s firm support to Ukraine’s defense, highlighting Danish leadership as a positive force for security development across Europe.
“I thank Denmark for its model of investing in weapons production in Ukraine, as well as for its consistent defense of Europe’s shared interests and the European way of life,” the President said.
Zelensky emphasized the need for continued pressure on Russia during Denmark’s EU Presidency: “Putin does not want a strong Europe; only Europeans truly need one. Therefore, Europe’s sanctions and those of other partners must be significantly more effective, and we, together with Denmark, certainly know how to achieve this.”
He added that preparations are already underway for a meeting with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, where a substantive discussion is expected.
“We will continue working together for a more effective European security architecture,” Zelensky concluded.
As reported by Ukrinform, Denmark assumed the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union on July 1, which will last until December 31, 2025.
