At the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU), 40-50 detectives are working on exposing abuses in the defense sector.

This was stated in an interview with Ukrinform by NABU Director Semen Kryvonos.

In particular, when asked about the bureau’s division that deals with exposing corruption in the Ministry of Defense, Kryvonos said that 21 detectives work there.

“But the defense sector is not limited to the Ministry of Defense alone. It also includes the Ministry of Strategic Industries, the State Border Service, which also purchases weapons, and the National Guard. If we analyze the situation as a whole, we have 40-50 detectives working in the defense sector, who work in various government agencies that purchase weapons, food, and provide logistical support,” said the director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

He added that the defense sector is one of the priorities for NABU, along with the areas of recovery, taxation, and customs.

According to Kryvonos, NABU has a number of high-profile criminal proceedings in the defense sector, which the bureau hopes to bring to a conclusion this year.

As reported by Ukrinform, in April, in the so-called “UAH 17 egg case,” NABU detectives announced their suspicion of the former head of the Ministry of Defense department, the owner and directors of supplier companies, and an individual. They are accused of involvement in the embezzlement of state funds for the purchase of food for the Armed Forces of Ukraine by the Ministry of Defense during the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation.
