President Volodymyr Zelensky posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to National Guard soldier Nazarii Hryncevych.
The corresponding decree No. 467/2025 was published on the website of the head of state, Ukrinform reports.
“For personal courage and heroism in defending the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and selfless service to the Ukrainian people, I hereby decree: to award the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the Golden Star to Nazarii Hryncevych, junior lieutenant (posthumously),” the document says.
As reported, combat medic Nazarii Hryncevych (call sign “Hrinka”) was the youngest defender of Azovstal. For three months, together with his comrades, he defended Azovstal, was captured by the Russians, and spent more than four months in captivity. He was released along with 215 Ukrainian prisoners of war as part of an exchange.
After rehabilitation, Hryncevych returned to the army and, together with his comrades, founded the special forces unit of the Azov Brigade’s artillery group “Contact 12,” where he was the commander of a platoon of optical observers.
He was killed on May 6, 2024, in battle near the town of Kreminna in the Luhansk region. The defender was awarded the Order of Courage, III degree.
