The Apostolic Nunciature in Kyiv sustained damage during Russia’s massive air assault on the Ukrainian capital on the night of 10 July.
As reported by Ukrinform, Titular Archbishop of Martana Visvaldas Kulbokas, the Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine, confirmed the damage in a statement to Vatican News.
“What’s especially concerning is that the drones appear to be targeting civilian neighbourhoods. I saw with my own eyes and heard with my own ears that some drones circled directly around the nunciature and nearby houses,” Kulbokas said.
He described visible damage to civilian structures—one located about 70 meters away and another roughly 90 meters from the Nunciature.
“Our own premises suffered some damage as well, both to the main building—the roof—and to the garage and service areas,” he added.
According to Kulbokas, Nunciature staff collected around ten large fragments, which he believes are parts of a drone. He confirmed there were no injuries among Nunciature personnel.
The Nuncio also noted that the Nunciature is situated in Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi District, home to numerous embassies.
As previously reported, Kyiv suffered a large-scale drone and missile attack overnight on 10 July, with debris falling in several districts. Current reports indicate two fatalities and 26 injuries as a result of Russia’s mass airstrike on the capital.
