Paris has strongly condemned Russia’s actions in the occupied Ukrainian territories and supported the decision of the European Court of Human Rights, which found the Kremlin guilty of large-scale human rights violations.
According to Ukrinform, this is stated in a statement by the French Foreign Ministry.
“We take note of the ECHR’s decision to find Russia guilty of gross and widespread human rights violations committed in the occupied territories of Ukraine since 2014 and during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine that began in February 2022,” the French Foreign Ministry said.
They called the ECHR’s July 9 ruling historic and stressed that Russia was found guilty of an “organized system of human rights violations,” including extrajudicial killings, acts of torture, the use of rape as a means of warfare, illegal and arbitrary detentions, as well as the abduction of Ukrainian children and their forced adoption.
“France reaffirms its strong condemnation of Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine, which is being waged in violation of international law and accompanied by serious and systematic human rights violations,” the Foreign Ministry said.
As reported, on July 9, the Grand Chamber of the ECHR in Strasbourg announced its decision in the interstate case of Ukraine and the Netherlands v. Russia, in which it recognized numerous human rights violations by the Russian Federation.
As reported, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine considers the ECHR’s decision in the case of Ukraine and the Netherlands v. Russia to be a significant step towards holding the Russian Federation accountable.
