On July 11, during the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome, a number of memoranda were signed regarding cooperation in the defense industry, including agreements with U.S. partners on joint gunpowder production.
Ukraine’s Presidential Advisor Oleksandr Kamyshin shared some details in a comment to Ukrinform.
“More than five agreements related to defense were signed today. Some are public, while others remain confidential. These include intergovernmental agreements, as well as agreements between the Ukrainian Council of Defense Industry and the Italian Industries Federation for Aerospace, Defense and Security, and agreements between companies,” he said.
He added that one of the documents was signed in the presence of retired U.S. General and Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg.
“This agreement concerns the joint production of gunpowder in the U.S. by an American company and Ukroboronprom. It’s a good example of how Ukraine’s defense industry is cooperation with the U.S. and European nations,” Kamyshin said.
He stressed that these companies are already known partners to Ukraine from other projects. Currently, joint cooperation with Italy and other European countries is being expanded.
He credited the Ministry for Strategic Industries for laying the groundwork, stating that two years ago, such a result “seemed out of reach” for Ukraine.
“We are now entering a systemic, proper, and ongoing format of joint work,” Kamyshin said.
The Ukraine Recovery Conference is taking place in Rome on July 10-11, with defense cooperation being a key component of Ukraine’s partnerships with international allies.
