U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a new agreement with NATO includes the delivery of military aid to Ukraine worth billions of U.S. dollars.

He made the statement in the Oval Office during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

“Billions of dollars’ worth of military equipment is going to be purchased from the United States, going to NATO, etc. And that’s going to be quickly distributed to the battlefield. Ukraine will take it up,” Trump said.

He noted that the weapons the U.S. will provide to NATO for Ukraine’s defense would include missile systems and Patriot batteries. According to Trump, it will be a “full complement with batteries” intended to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.

“We’re going to have some come very soon, within days,” Trump added.

He also stressed that several countries currently in possession of Patriot systems will “swap over” as part of the effort.

The president praised the agreement with NATO and the engagement with allied leaders, emphasizing that the cost of weapons for Ukraine would be covered by America’s allies — not by U.S. taxpayers.

“We hope that’s going to have an impact on Vladimir Putin and we hope it’s going to have an impact on Ukraine also. We want to make sure that Ukraine does what they have to do. All of a sudden, they may feel emboldened,” Trump said.

Rutte, in turn, stressed clearly: “Ukraine wants a peace deal.”

Trump, in turn, replied: “I feel confident that they will do what has to be done. Plus we have certain parameters that both sides know and we already know what should be done. So I think that’s going to be very strong. We want everlasting peace.”

Trump earlier expressed disappointment with Russia, saying he had not been able to secure a peace deal from Putin. He warned that if no agreement were reached within the next 50 days, Russia would face “very severe tariffs.”
