About 40 women participants in the She Drives project have received a Category D driving license, and 10 of them have already found a job.
The relevant statement was made by Ukrainian Communities and Territories Development Deputy Minister Serhii Derkach in a commentary to Ukrinform.
“As of July 16, 2025, a total of 100 women were participating in the project to train and employ female bus drivers. Of them, 60 participants are undergoing training at various stages; 40 women have already received a Category D driving license; and some are still having an interview with companies. Ten participants have already been employed,” Derkach told.
In his words, international partners of the project have confirmed their intention to extend the pilot programme by the end of 2025 and increase the number of women willing to learn to drive large buses.
Derkach also announced the resumption of a project providing training for female truck drivers, which was put on hold due to the suspension of funding in January 2025.
“USAID suspended funding, and we had to put this initiative on hold. But, we have already resumed it as it was picked up by the UN project, Women in Ukraine. They helped us with co-financing the very part of the project that was stopped. And today we are already finishing the training of women,” Derkach noted.
According to him, out of 120 project participants, 63 women have already received a Category C/CE driving license. Once the training programme resumes, those women who are willing to return to the project will be able to do so. As of January 2025, more than 20 programme participants found a job.
A reminder that, in cooperation with the Foundation for Institutional Development and with the support of the IREX’s Veteran Reintegration Program, the Ukrainian Communities and Territories Development Ministry is launching a project to retrain veterans for work in the field of transportation and logistics.
