The European Union will continue exerting pressure on Russia until the Kremlin halts its military aggression against Ukraine.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, said this in a comment to Ukrinform.

“The EU just approved one of its strongest sanctions packages against Russia to date. Each sanction weakens Russia’s ability to wage war,” Kallas said.

“The message is clear: Europe will not back down in its support for Ukraine. The EU will keep raising the pressure until Russia ends its war,” she added.

The European External Action Service noted that the full list of sanctions will be published soon. It will reportedly include a lower price cap on Russian oil, sanctions on over 100 ships from the so-called “shadow fleet,” a ban on operations involving the Nord Stream pipelines, sanctions against a Russian-owned oil refinery in India, two Chinese banks, and a private operator of an international flag registry. The package also introduces stricter restrictions on the export of dual-use goods and a complete ban on SWIFT transactions.

On July 18, the EU adopted its 18th sanctions package against Russia, described as “one of the strongest” so far.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys has called on U.S. lawmakers to adopt a similar sanctions bill against Russia, following the EU’s decision.
