The State of Israel calls for a strong and lasting peace that guarantees the security of Ukraine.
This was stated by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar during a joint press briefing in Kyiv with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha, a Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“Last weeks were very painful. You faced heavy attacks. Many of your citizens were killed and injured. Therefore, it was important for me to come now to Kyiv. My heart is with the families who lost their loved ones. My prayers are for the injured,” Sa’ar said.
He added that Israel understands what it means to be under attack and condemned Russia’s strikes on Ukrainian civilians.
“We call for a durable and lasting peace which ensured the security for Ukraine. The Israelis are supporting the Ukrainian people. We were the first nation to open a field hospital in Ukraine,” the minister emphasized.
Sa’ar noted that Israel had previously provided Ukraine with generators, food supplies, winter gear, and water systems. Additionally, Israel is sending experts to assist with PTSD treatment and helping rehabilitate wounded Ukrainians.
He invited Andrii Sybiha to visit Jerusalem.
Sa’ar also said he plans to visit the Babyn Yar National Historical and Memorial Reserve in Kyiv together with Ukraine’s foreign minister.
He pointed out that both Israel and Ukraine have endured difficult times and suffered through war and pain.
Sa’ar also recalled that many Israelis were born in Ukraine, including former Prime Minister Golda Meir, and that many still have relatives in the country.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar arrived in Kyiv on July 22 for an official visit.
