Meeting between Ukrainian and Russian delegations starts in Istanbul

A meeting between the Ukrainian and Russian delegations has begun in Istanbul.

A correspondent for Ukrinform reported the news.

Before the meeting, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan addressed the negotiators.

“The ultimate goal, of course, is a ceasefire that will pave the way for peace. We will continue to fulfill our responsibility as the facilitator of these talks. Turkey is ready to fulfill its responsibility to advance the process, subject to the agreement that is going to be reached by the parties,” Fidan said.

The Minister also stressed that the Istanbul talks demonstrate to the world that peace and dialogue are more effective than weapons.

Ukrinform reported that the meeting in Istanbul between the negotiating teams of Ukraine and Russia was scheduled for 7 p.m. The delegations arrived in advance, but the start of the talks was delayed.

The Ukrainian delegation arrived in Istanbul after meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara.
