Russians hit tuberculosis hospital in Kharkiv, injuring four staff members, two patients

In Kharkiv, one of the Russian air-dropped bombs struck the building of Regional Tuberculosis Hospital No. 3, where 13 patients and 25 staff members were present at the time.

This was reported to journalists by Natalia Trokhliebova, the acting chief medical officer, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.

“I was at work when the explosion occurred. All the windows and doors were blown out. Patients were on the second floor — there were 13 of them in the morning. Two were injured and taken away by ambulance. Among the staff, four sustained injuries to the face and hands, others had minor scratches,” the doctor said.

The guided aerial bomb (GAB) hit the roof and destroyed the ceilings between the floors, where two large inpatient wards were located.

“There were no patients on the third floor. We’re currently undergoing a reorganization, so the floor was empty. Otherwise, I don’t know how many casualties there could have been,” Trokhliebova added.

According to her, the hospital housed patients in moderate to severe condition due to tuberculosis or related illnesses.

“Moreover, these are people in need of social protection. They include internally displaced persons, individuals without permanent housing, and some who were abandoned by their families for various reasons,” she noted.

Trokhliebova also pointed out that the strike occurred just before Medical Workers’ Day, which is celebrated in Ukraine.

“We’re a medical facility serving people in need of social shelter — something they’ve been deprived of. And this Sunday is Medical Workers’ Day. That’s the kind of ‘greeting’ we received from our ‘kind’ neighbors,” the hospital head remarked bitterly.

She added that the patients will continue their treatment at the Regional Phthisiopulmonology Center.

The concern that people could be trapped under the rubble was not confirmed, according to Oleh Syniehubov, head of the regional administration.

“Fortunately, everyone has made contact. They are safe,” he wrote.

As reported, at around 11:30 on July 25, Russian forces dropped GABs on Kharkiv. One bomb hit the roof of the medical facility. A total of 14 people were injured.
