Russians storming Pokrovsk sector 24/7 despite heavy losses – military

Russian forces have stepped up assaults in the Pokrovsk sector this summer, using so-called “meat assault” tactics and suffering heavy personnel losses.

That is according to Andrii Otchenash, an officer of Ukraine’s National Guard Rubizh Brigade, who spoke to Ukrinform.

He stated that assaults are happening virtually around the clock. The enemy shows no regard for the lives of their soldiers, continuing attacks despite mounting casualties.

“They don’t care about the number of corpses. Their goal is simply to show captured territory on a map. They can lose an entire company as KIA in three days, and another company as WIA in the next three, and still consider it a success,” Otchenash explained.

He emphasized that Russian forces barely use heavy equipment, such as tanks or anti-tank missile systems, acknowledging their limited effectiveness. Instead, they rely heavily on mass infantry assaults.

“The Russians have no respect for their own soldiers. There’s already video evidence of a Russian soldier trying to surrender being shot by his own comrades — and then finished off with a shot to the head. Nothing has changed in the Russian army since NKVD times,” the officer stated.

Otchenash noted that the widespread use of FPV drones and fiber-optic guided UAVs has significantly reduced the effectiveness of even well-built fortifications. Dozens, sometimes hundreds of drones are used daily to attack Ukrainian positions.

At the same time, Ukrainian security and defense forces are compensating for personnel shortages by deploying ground-based robotic platforms.

“The only way to offset the shortage is with robotic ground systems. They can perform logistics and evacuation missions that were previously done by people,” he explained.

Despite the challenging situation, Otchenash concluded, Ukrainian troops are holding the line and doing everything possible at their positions.

As reported by Ukrinform, Russian invading forces have concentrated a significant number of troops and are actively using aviation and equipment in the eastern direction near Pokrovsk.
