Chernivtsi bid farewell to the fourth victim of the Russian missile attack on the city on the night of July 12. For more than 10 days, doctors fought for the life of 44-year-old ATO veteran and volunteer Ilona Kapelnytska, but on July 25, she died from injuries sustained during the enemy attack
This was reported by a correspondent for Ukrinform.
Her comrades, relatives, volunteers, friends, neighbors, and concerned citizens came to say goodbye to the Chernivtsi resident.
“I would like to wish all Ukrainians who love our country to be as worthy as my daughter. She volunteered to defend her homeland on her own, without any military experience. I am confident that we will defend our freedom if people like my daughter continue to fight,” says Vitaliy Ihorovych, the grieving father of a Chernivtsi woman who died as a result of a Russian strike.
He recalled that from childhood, Ilona was very patriotic, straightforward, and courageous. She always stood up for the truth and went to war for that truth.
In 2015, Ilona Kapelnytska served in one of the volunteer battalions. She fought in Mariupol, Stanitsa Luhanska, Sloviansk, and other settlements in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

In 2015, Ilona Kapelnytska served in one of the volunteer battalions. She fought in Mariupol, Stanitsa Luhanska, Sloviansk, and other settlements in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
After leaving the army, she was actively involved in volunteering, helping the military with ammunition, equipment, and food. She also supported wounded soldiers who were being treated in the hospital.
On the night of the Russian attack on Chernivtsi, Ilona was at home. Her apartment is located near the site where the rocket debris fell.
“After the first explosion, my neighbors and I left our homes to check on the condition of the building and see if evacuation was necessary. I am sure that Ilona also went outside to assess the situation and see if anyone needed help, and that was when the second explosion occurred,” recalls Alexander Stavchansky, a veteran who lives in the same building, about the night of the Russian attack.
After suffering serious injuries, Ilona Kapelnytska was in a coma for 12 days. Doctors fought for her life, but they were unable to save the young woman.
The deceased is survived by her parents and adult son.
