The Ukrainian side hopes for constructive and productive dialogue with the new Polish President Karol Nawrocki on many issues, ranging from security to historical matters, as well as on further support for Ukraine in the international arena.

This was stated by Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Vasyl Bodnar, who participated in today’s inauguration of the President of the Republic of Poland as a representative of the diplomatic corps, in a comment to Ukrinform.

“We hope that the dialogue will be constructive and productive,” Bodnar emphasized.

He recalled that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Nawrocki on his election, and the leaders had a telephone conversation.

According to him, Zelensky invited his Polish counterpart to visit Ukraine, and now the teams of both leaders are agreeing on a possible date for the visit. He expressed hope that the date “will be announced in the near future.”

Bodnar noted that the communication between the presidents shows that security issues and support for Ukraine are among the important interests of the Polish state, and Kyiv is grateful to Warsaw for this “clear and unambiguous position.”

“We hope that this strategic interest will determine our relations in the future,” the Ukrainian diplomat emphasized.

Bodnar also stressed that sensitive issues on the agenda of bilateral relations, which, in particular, concern the complex history, are currently being actively resolved. He recalled that the exhumation of Polish victims is continuing in Ukraine.

“We hope that the Polish side will also be open to cooperation in conducting exhumations on the territory of Poland, in particular in the village of Jureczkowa [near Przemysl]. We are currently preparing a team and hope that the relevant work will begin there in the near future,” the Ukrainian diplomat emphasized.

He stressed that Ukraine is showing openness to resolving historical issues.

“We hope that it is the dialogue between the presidents that will help resolve all key issues related to security, defense cooperation, the development of our bilateral cooperation, and the issue of Ukraine’s recovery, because Polish business is extremely interested in participating in the processes of restoring our state,” emphasized the Ukrainian ambassador to Poland.

Bodnar also stressed that Poland plays a very important role in strengthening defense cooperation between Ukraine and NATO countries.

“Logistical support is a vital element for Ukraine. Therefore, we count on Poland to continue to play an important role in supplying weapons, securing logistics chains, and promoting assistance to Ukraine to deter the aggressor. Communication and cooperation with the American side, as well as with European partners who are currently putting together a serious aid package and purchasing weapons for Ukraine with their own funds, are extremely important here,” emphasized the Ukrainian ambassador to Poland.

As reported by Ukrinform, Navrotsky took the oath of office as President of Poland on Wednesday, August 6.

In his first conversation with Polish President-elect Karol Navrotsky, Zelensky expressed his hope that Poland would continue to be a reliable partner and ally of Ukraine.
