Europe must participate in meetings and negotiations on peace in Ukraine.
According to Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated this on Facebook following a conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
He said that Ukraine and Germany equally see the need to end the war as soon as possible with a dignified peace, and that the parameters of the end of this war will determine the security conditions for Europe for decades to come.
“The war is happening in Europe, and Ukraine is an integral part of Europe – we are already in negotiations on EU accession. Therefore, Europe must be a participant in the relevant processes,” the head of state emphasized.
Zelensky and Merz coordinated the positions of Ukraine and Germany. According to the president, “We coordinated our positions with Germany. Friedrich and I agreed to speak again. Today, security advisors will hold an online meeting to align our joint views – Ukraine and the whole Europe, the United States.”
He also recalled that yesterday, various potential formats for peace meetings at the leadership level in the near future were discussed: two bilateral formats and one trilateral format.
“Ukraine is not afraid of meetings and expects the same brave approach from the Russian side. It is time we ended the war. Thank you to everyone who is helping,” Zelensky emphasized.
As reported by Ukrinform, the President of Ukraine announced a series of telephone conversations and contacts with international partners on August 7 to make real progress on the path to peace.
