Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky briefed President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on diplomatic efforts with U.S. President Donald Trump and recent agreements with European partners.
Zelensky announced this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
“A good and substantive conversation with Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. I am grateful for the support of the Ukrainian people, our independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine. We greatly appreciate this. Indeed, international law, the fundamental principles of the UN Charter, and common sense – namely, respect for the borders and territorial integrity of states, and the dignity of every people – must prevail,” Zelensky noted.
The head of Ukrainian state stressed: “It is extremely dangerous for every nation if this or that independent state is regarded simply as ‘territory’ and attempts are made to partition it. History has shown many times: if such injustice is allowed against one state, it does not end there”.
According to Zelensky, that is why it is important for all states to achieve a just and lasting peace for Ukraine based on respect for the sovereign rights of the Ukrainian people.
“I informed President Tokayev about the diplomatic work with President Trump and European partners, about our agreements. Yesterday, a meeting of security advisers took place, and Europe has a coordinated position: the war must end as soon as possible with a reliable peace,” Zelensky stressed.
“Unfortunately, Russia is doing everything to prolong hostilities, refuses to stop the killings despite announced deadlines, and is trying to bargain for better positions on the ground for future strikes. Such destructive behavior by Russia must be stopped,” Zelensky stressed.
The Ukrainian president noted: “Ukraine is ready to work as productively as possible with all partners for the sake of real peace. Matters concerning Ukraine must be decided with Ukraine’s participation. All partners understand this”.
Zelensky and Tokayev agreed to maintain contact and work to bring closer relations between countries and people.
As earlier reported by Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked European leaders for the joint statement on peace in Ukraine.
