Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda believes that countries that have joined the Coalition of the Willing should be ready to deploy Armed Forces to ensure security in Ukraine.

Ukrinform reports, citing LRT, that he stated this after a virtual meeting of the Coalition of the Willing on August 13, which took place at the initiative of Berlin.

“We need to be prepared to deploy forces to ensure security in Ukraine,” Nausėda said.

According to him, Lithuania is ready to contribute to the joint forces by providing military personnel and opportunities for military training.

The Lithuanian President noted that Russia’s war against Ukraine, which has been going on for four years, has a significant impact on the security situation throughout Europe, so, in his opinion, efforts to end the fighting are welcome, but only on terms favorable to Ukraine and Europe.

According to Nausėda, the issue of peace mustn’t be resolved without Ukraine’s participation, so President Volodymyr Zelensky must also take part in future meetings.

Nausėda believes that it is impossible to demand that Ukraine surrender its territories, and such a demand cannot be a precondition for a ceasefire.

“A comprehensive ceasefire without preconditions is essential before any real negotiations can begin,” the Lithuanian President stated.

According to Ukrinform, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin on August 13. Afterwards, they took part in a video conference with European leaders, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, and U.S. President Donald Trump.

During the Ukrainian President’s visit to Germany, the sixth meeting of the Coalition of the Willing was also held, at which key points of security guarantees for Ukraine, further support, and the development of joint projects were discussed.
