Issues related to the frontline, funding for Ukraine’s Defense Forces, and Russia’s intentions ahead of the upcoming meeting in Alaska were discussed at a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Staff.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in a post on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

“I held a Staff meeting to discuss three key issues,” Zelensky said.

He said the first was the frontline, particularly the Pokrovsk sector. Ukraine, he noted, is countering Russian attempts to gain a foothold and is increasing pressure on the enemy.

“We are succeeding. Units of the 79th and 82nd Air Assault Brigades are operating very effectively in the Dobropillia area. Today, a decision was made to further reinforce this and other areas in the Donetsk region. Special attention was paid to positions in the Zaporizhzhia region – I thank all our warriors for their resilience,” he said.

According to Zelensky, the Russian army continues to suffer heavy losses in its attempt to secure more favorable political positions for the Kremlin ahead of the Alaska meeting. He said Ukraine understands this plan and is informing partners of the real situation.

The president added that the meeting also addressed the development of the contract system in the Defense Forces and the funding of Ukraine’s Defense and Security Forces for 2025–2026. He stressed that under any circumstances, Ukraine’s army will be ready to respond quickly and effectively to threats against statehood, with priority given to building a professional, contract-based army.

Zelensky said he expected an intelligence report later today on Russia’s current intentions and preparations for the Alaska meeting.

“Indeed, high stakes. The key thing is that this meeting should open up a real path toward a just peace and a substantive discussion between leaders in a trilateral format – Ukraine, the United States, and the Russian side. It is time to end the war, and the necessary steps must be taken by Russia. We are counting on America. We are ready, as always, to work as productively as possible,” he said.
