Two police officers killed in Russian shelling in Sviatohirsk

In Sviatohirsk, Donetsk region, two police officers were killed in a Russian shelling attack while on duty — Captain Roman Penkov and Senior Sergeant Valentyn Havrysh.

According to Ukrinform, the Donetsk Region Police reported this on Facebook.

At about 04:45 on August 15, the officers’ vehicle came under fire while they were on patrol.

The victims were 41-year-old Senior District Police Officer of Police Department No. 4 (Sloviansk) of the Kramatorsk District Police Directorate, Roman Penkov, and 29-year-old police driver of the local security police unit, Valentyn Havrysh.

Penkov was a native of Raihorodok, Kramatorsk district.

“As a district police officer, he knew every inch of his home area and was always the first to help people,” the police said.

He is survived by his parents, wife, and seven-year-old daughter.

Havrysh was born in Novoselivka, Lyman district. He joined the National Police in 2019 and, since September 2021, had served as a police driver in the rapid response unit of the Sloviansk City Division of the Mariupol Interdistrict Department of the Security Police in the Donetsk region.

“He was a loving son, brother, and husband,” the police said.

On August 11, three police officers — Oleh Babichev, Dmytro Havryk, and Roman Khomaiko — were killed in a Russian airstrike in the Donetsk region.
